HAVING FUN PLAYING SANTA CLAUS THIS HOLIDAY SEASON
DELIVERING FOOD, CLOTHING & TOYS TO OUR VETERANS IN NEED
We had a blast redistributing food, clothing and toys this holiday season to our veterans in need. Our friend Allan Espinoza, director of God Provides Food Bank, donated a bunch of small toys for the kids at Almost Home where our female veterans reside. Allan also contributed American flags in all sizes plus a bag of new necklaces made of seashells so we were looking good at Stand Down this past weekend at the LA Convention Center. We also had a full truckload of clothing that was donated to us from Patriots and Paws and we past some clothing along to the transitional housing that we visit; the rest went to Stand Down where it was sorted and distributed to our veterans. We handed out about 100 flags and bunch of necklaces, which were loved by the female veterans, and we had a large box of brand new golf shirts, which we passed out too. So yes, we were had fun. I always bring along copies of a book we published Edgar Hernandez, POW “An American Hero” and as long as someone has the desire to read it I will give them a copy of the book for free.
We have visited over 40 American Legions and VFW’s to date and we plan on visiting many more. We have given away hundreds of copies of Edgar’s book during our visits; we are hoping that in the coming year we can get their support from our friends we have visited. We purchase 800 pounds of food now and in January we will be purchasing much more from a new food bank to distribute to Villages at Cabrillo in Long Beach, CA. We need funding to keep up our mission, the cost of food, gas and vehicle repairs are just some of our expenses and we hope to grow in our efforts. We also plan on doing the same in other states, hopefully we can make that happen this coming year as well. We would like to thank our committed partners for their assistance in our mission.
One of the coolest things just happened recently, our homeless veteran friend Danny, who hopefully gets his life back in order with HUD VASH soon, called me and said he had a storage full of furniture that he needed to get rid of and if I knew of anyone who could use it for free. Well, our other homeless veteran friend Tom, who has been living on the streets, just got his first apartment with Section 8 and when I called him all he had was a chair. Well now Tom has an apartment with furniture and Danny has a storage shed that is now almost empty and he can downsize to a smaller storage unit saving him some money. I just want to say Danny always wants to help the homeless and our veterans even though he is homeless himself, and Tom, he is the most polite, always grateful, gentle giant, and I am glad to call them friends. We always remain connected to those we help.
Delivering healthy food is something that will always be needed; there will always be hungry veterans in need of food. We have the program to a science as we deliver sorted food, then we purchase extra items like meat and eggs and deliver this quality food to our veterans doing the right thing and getting their life in order in a program at a transitional home scattered throughout our surrounding cities. We also pick up truckloads of clothes and sort through the clothing and redistribute it to our veterans in need. All we need now is the support from our friends who want to make our mission a huge success. Please call or email us, you can always donate here online. All donations are 100% tax deductible as we are a non-profit organization.
