DELIVERING TURKEYS FOR THE HOLIDAYS
IS JUST ONE WAY TO HELP A VETERAN
During this holiday season, we will be looking to help our veterans in need of a warm place to sleep and a good meal, and ready to assist them off the streets if they are ready to make that commitment. We were able to deliver turkeys this past Friday with our Veterans Food Assistance Packs that we deliver weekly, which made for an enjoyable day. Every year Allan Espinoza, veteran and director at God Provides Food Bank, gives out turkeys and they were some nice large Jennie-O turkeys. Assistance for Veterans wants to wish every family, including those veterans we delivered turkeys to, a turkey-full Thanksgiving with family and friends.
We are looking forward to the New Year and now with our non-profit status approved, we can seek out more food and donations so we can help more veterans. I have been reading articles that we were supposed to have solved veteran homelessness in America. I can see why some smaller cities will be able to claim that they have solved this issue, but they do not realize many homeless are just bused to other cities. I do see the possibility of ending homelessness amongst veterans due to the programs that are available and the great organizations out there doing a great job getting our veterans the help they need.
To really conquer the issue of homelessness in America, we have to get our politicians and billionaires more involved in solving the problem. It will take a commitment from many, and the dollars needed will have to come from somewhere, there should not be homeless people in America, period. But in the meantime, we can all pitch in with a helping hand and work on the problem at a grass roots level. We can assist you by getting your donation of canned items or warm clothes or blankets to veterans in need. We visit encampments and know where many gather for a warm meal donated by local churches. Let us do the labor of locating and delivering food and warm items for those cold winter nights on your behalf.
