It sure was nice having some rain here in Los Angeles. Let’s just hope the big, bad and scary El Niño isn’t all hype because we need the rain. We already received more rain than the past three years. Well, rain or shine we keep on trucking, moving tons of food, some donated by many generous and big hearted folks, and many of it is purchased. We love working with our homeless veterans trying to lend a guiding hand by delivering our care packages full of a bunch of cool stuff. But you never can leave behind those veterans that now have a roof over their head, many having been on the streets for 10 to 20 plus years, which is sad considering America does not count its wealthy in millions any longer; it’s all about the billions.
In order to conquer our homeless problem we will have to build small cities to house these men and women, many being veterans, and then guide them slowly back into the workforce and give them a second chance on life. I don’t take any pride knowing that Los Angeles is the homeless capitol of America. Another problem is once we get a roof over someone’s head they need some decent furniture. You don’t want a veteran who has struggled after returning from Vietnam to be sitting on a hard kitchen chair watching TV. At the very least they should have a small sofa—just as an example.
We have been busy here and we’re excited to announce that together with our friends and partners at the Hollywood American Legion, we are producing a fundraiser for television at the historic Hollywood American Legion on Highland Avenue next to the Hollywood Bowl. On Saturday, April 30, we’ll be putting together the Coca-Cola Title Sponsor U.S. Veterans Choice Comedy Awards and the 2nd Annual Inspiring Youth Conference. This is going to be a huge night of laughter, honoring our warriors and handing out awards. We’re looking forward to many celebrity guests and it will air in 250,000 homes. Please help us by purchasing a couple of tickets, which are a donation to a very important issue helping our homeless veterans off the street and getting them the help they need.
We began this program three years ago and we only wish we could help many more veterans. We will never be satisfied until we are able to deliver and pick up donated food every single day. What we need the most is monetary donations to make this a reality. We now have a new location in West Covina, California thanks to Premier Chrysler dealership. We have a warehouse in San Diego, California managed by Mr. and Mrs. Mike Caro thanks to Military Auto Center. We also want to thank the huge donation from the Sunshine Portrait Studios in Riverside, who just called and wanted to get a non-perishable collection during the holidays, which went way beyond the call. We also want to thank the Sunshine Club of Wilmington, California. They are the hardest working seniors group I have run into during my weekly missions and they have supported us with a large donation for our homeless veterans care packages. They are a one of a kind group. When I spoke at their monthly meeting it was a full house and they stay busy the entire month doing what they can for their community and for our veterans in need of assistance.
